Our Mission statement is Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Develops leaders, promotes brotherhood and academic excellence while providing service and advocacy for our communities. The Brothers of Upsilon Lambda Chapter are dedicated to carrying out the Fraternity’s mission statement. Our mission is to provide excellent service and advocacy to the residents of the Jacksonville. The chapter was chartered on December 30, 1925 and for the past 95 years; we have been committed to upholding the fraternal aims of manly deeds, scholarship and love for all mankind.
We are focused on strengthening our fraternal Brotherhood, by stimulating the ambition of our brothers and preparing them for leadership positions in and outside of the Fraternity. We encourage our members to always portray the highest form of professionalism and manhood. This process of enriching our brotherhood helps us to strengthen our fraternal bond, which results in a strong collective force, able to withstand all that might stand in our way to being servants of all.
Upsilon Lambda sponsors and is actively involved with our fraternity’s national programs in the Jacksonville, Florida area. Our national programs and projects include “Hopeless People Voteless People”, “Project Alpha”, “My Brother’s Keeper”, “Leadership Development Institute”, and “Go to High School, Go to College”. Men of Valor mentoring program in partnership with West Jacksonville Church of God in Christ, provides mentoring to young males ages 8-18 through the interaction of positive role models and the introduction of social, life, academic and professional skills. These skills are paramount to helping the mentees become academically successful, as well as productive citizens.
Some of our local programs include: “Ezekiel Bryant High School Recognition Program” “Clara White Mission’ December to Remember, “Big Brothers Big Sisters”, “March of Dimes” (March for Babies), “Urban League”, “NAACP”, Supporting our local HBCU, and “Adopt-A-Highway”.
Our signature event The Martin Luther King Jr. Oratorical contest has for the past 12 years committed to promoting and awarding oratory skills and academic achievement by providing scholarships to male high school junior and seniors.
